Grade 10 Ceramics 2015

For the Grade 10s .....

This term you will be creating a small wall hanging using clay relief tiles. The topic will be ...... 'Africa re-visited'.
The supports for the wall hanging will be provided as a design constraint. Each panel measures 24 cm x 24 cm and you may use as few (or as many) as you need.

Start your process work by brainstorming your ideas with little sketches.

Leanne Vincent
  • Research the work of other ceramic artists.
  • Find out how to make small shaped tiles.
You could 'model' plastic clay OR 'carve' leather hard clay.
  • Take photos of your environment that you could use.
  • Make paper patterns for your tiles. Move them around to create a composition.
  • Make some coloured drawings to show the glazes you could use. Your teacher will demonstrate a new oil pastel technique. LINK to the kamKame oil pastel workshop.
  • Investigate shapes; patterns; textures; colours; contrasts; focal areas;
  • All this process work will be collected into your Ceramics Sourcebook - worth 50 marks.

Let's concentrate on our collection of chosen artworks that are good examples for the FIVE themes we have studied in class.
Some examples can be used in either of two themes BUT you must explain in your essay why the example is relevant to that theme - i.e. focus on that theme.

Dust off your infographics & essays, grab some Post-it notes - we're going for 100% for your upcoming Trials theory exam!

Optional:

  • Order your CD collection or put the collection on your flash. However, your infographics & essays should already have all the content you need.
  • Remember - your themes and content are in your Classroom folder.

Modernism and Gender Issues

For the Grade 11s ........
The emphasis on the formal elements of art is the essence of ‘Modernism’.

Artists make COLOUR, SPACE and SHAPE
(for e.g.) the subject matter of Art.

While we investigate this, we will also look at the theme of Women in Art which will tie in with your Grade 12 curriculum, and could link with your practical work this term.
