Mixed Media People - a brief

Mixed Media People is a very broad brief for those learners who enjoy working with the human figure and/or human relationships (even with yourself!).

Jane Maxwell ”Asparagus Girls“ • 31" × 58" × 3" • Mixed media on panel

For those of you who enjoy objects rather than people - look at the Woolworths Educational Programme Brief - also on this blog.

I have bought two excellent e-books on Mixed Media People which you should read.
I will try and share the links .......... otherwise they are saved on our server and on the two Studio USB flash drives.

These are the criteria which we will be using for our school assessment for the sourcebook:-
Due date .... 18th February 2013
Notice that you should aim for AT LEAST 5 x A3 pages.
1.  Mind mapping and/or brainstorming (+/- 5 ideas) - illustrated
2.  Development of 2 ideas - illustrated
3.  Investigation of the chosen idea (other artists? examples? all   referenced) - illustrated
4.  Experimentation with materials (problem-solving) - photos and samples
5.  Final drawing of idea/product (at least an A4 tonal study)
6.  A summary which will be your written final proposal / intention - to be done in class
7.  Reflection (SWOT analysis of your idea) - to be done in class

Last Week of your sourcebook!!!
We will ALL be working on the tonal drawing together in class. If you don't have visual material for this, then you will be working on the netbooks - on an A4 'artist's statement'. Read Andries Botha's catalogue (or other catalogues) to get an idea of how to do this.

We will complete the Pitch after we have finished our sourcebooks (due on the 18th February 2013).

The competition Pitch will be delivered to Woolworths digitally, but we will not send them the whole sourcebook, as they battled to handle the file sizes and blog last year.

These are the criteria which we will be using for our school assessment for the sourcebook:-
Due date .... 18th February 2013

1.  Mind mapping and/or brainstorming (+/- 5 ideas) - illustrated
2.  Development of 2 ideas - illustrated
3.  Investigation of the chosen idea (other artists? examples? all referenced) - illustrated
4.  Experimentation with materials (problem-solving) - photos and samples

6. Written proposal / intention (summary) - in class
7.  Reflection (SWOT analysis of your idea) - in class

Last Week of your sourcebook!!!
We will ALL be working on the tonal drawing together in class. If you don't have visual material for this, then you will be working on the netbooks - on a digital word-processing app.

Look at 'The Pitch' criteria for headlines for the chunks.

Grade 9 2013 Welcome

Hello Grade 9s!
There are an awful lot of you, so please let me know your e-mail addresses asap.

Our theme for the year is the question ...

How do we perceive beauty in art?

Jane Alexander - Oh Yes Girl.......

Disney's new Sofia princess

Discuss the 'beauty' you see here with your group.

Now 'comment' on the types of Beauty that you see in these two faces. Find and interpret 5 aspects for each. OBSERVE carefully!

A chart method to help you ......but please comment using full sentences, good spelling and punctuation.

You might like to research further about these two faces.......

  • You may also 'google' these topics. Share sites!
  • You may like to work on-line first on Google Drive (Documents) - similar to Word (see bookmark). Also Notepad, Wordpad .... Then you can 'cut & paste' to the 'comments' below.
