Gr 11 - Ceramic mosaic artwork PAT1 2016

For the Grade 11s .....

Last term you worked on a small wall hanging using clay relief tiles. The topic was ...... 'Africa re-visited'.
This term you will have ONE week to finish this. [50 marks]
Please remember to hand in your process work as a sourcebook as well.
If something has happened to your clay work, then you may QUICKLY construct a paper collage instead of a ceramic mosaic.

We will start our new project on Monday 25th January.

The List Poem Activity creates an opportunity for young people to represent the lines from their list poems visually and metaphorically using magazine cut-outs, photos and drawings within six storyboard frames. This introduces  the storyboard concept and primes the pump for metaphorical thinking.

Grade 9 - Basic armatures

For the Grade 9s .....

An armature is like the skeleton of a sculpture.Our simple test armature is made of .5mm baling wire wrapped around a crumpled and torn piece of old printed paper (from the recycling bin). 
Like a skeleton - it must be able to bend in space and retain its 'pose'.

We then need to draw it on a flat piece of paper so that it looks like it is 3-D. This is called an illusion of 3-dimensions.
Work in 2 steps......

1. Create the illusion of a wrapped cylinder using  imaginary lighting from the left. Form shadows will then be on the right.
2. Create an illusion of space by sketching in a 'corner' behind the form of the armature. 
3. The armature and the drawing will be for your term assessment.
4. Practice makes perfect!

Just as we have been exploring 3-D illusionism in our practical work, so we will look at how other artists have worked both in real 3-dimensions and with the illusion of 3-dimensions during the long history of art.

Grade 11 Visual Literacy exam revision

For the Grade 11s ...

During the course of 2015 you have studied a number of artworks in class and during exams. Some of these are from 20th Century International artists and others from contemporary South African artists.
Please find attached the list of these. Each artwork has its own link. You can view these in Classroom; download them onto a flash drive OR print them out if you have to.

Your exam paper will have 40 marks from these works and 40 marks from unseen challenges. You have 3 hours to write this paper so please plan carefully using the guidelines and topic sentences.
