Look at this famous sculpture and then make an infographic as suggested below ...
The F.D.R. Memorial
is a socio-political comment on the reforms of F.D. Roosevelt - an American president between 1933 -1945
Artist – George Segal
The figures are probably made of painted bronze - not plaster of Paris.
The text reads .........
‘The test of our
progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much, it
is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.’
Construct 7 chunks identifying 5 of the visual clues seen in the work. Put the picture (with data) in the middle.
What could each clue mean? (5 chunks)
How does the meaning in general relate to the written message? (1 chunk)
How does this sculpture relate to our own South African Millenium goals? (What are these????) (1 chunk)
Put these on a poster with the picture and information.
This is called an 'Infographic'.
You may do this as a Prezi or in Evernote. Don't forget to 'share' this with me as an e-mail.
This infographic is worth 10 marks.
Additional link to the actual monument building - this gives an idea of how Segal's sculpture was translated into a public monument. Segal originated both the "Rural Couple' and the 'Breadline' to go with the quote.
