    comments about Princess Sofia
Her clothing is very neat and clean which shows perfection and the colour purple links to royalty.
Her cheeks are rosey which indicates that her skin is perfect and healthy.
The tilt of her head and her pose (hands behind back) makes her look adorable, innocence and shyness.
Her large eyes show innocence and the blue colour indicates her calm spirit and clarity, compared to the ocean and the sky.
Her gorgeous curly hair is neat and the curls are almost perfect which persuades the impression that she may be light-hearted and kind.
The pink background shows her girly nature and the purple in her dress shows royalty or glamour and wealth.

  7. This is just Nicole... When looking at princess Sophia I perceive an innocent, young, soft hearted princess with eyes as blue as the skies implying innocence and a sense of "cuteness". Hair of curls and light brown give the effect that she is of a fun and friendly personality which fits along with her purple dress that further shows her youth. The pink background sets a fun, inviting mood that contrasts with her shy pose.

When we look at princess Sophia, we notice that her dress is clean, which could mean that she takes pride in her appearance. Her rosey cheeks show the perfection of her skin, and makes her look adorable and cute. Her big blue eyes are out of proportion an gives a sense of innocence. The blueness of her eyes could represent her character as being calm, and having clarity. Her soft brown curls could mean that she is light-hearted and gentle. Her posture could mean that she is polite and shy.

Sofia is a typical Disney princess. She has red rosy cheeks which gives off an impression that she is sweet and innocent, she has bony blue eyes which adds to her beauty by making her look royal. Sofia has beautiful red curly locks which makes her pleasing to the eye. Her choice of dress and jewelry shows that she is brought up in a wealthy home and looks very well groomed. The way Sofia is positioned shows that she is innocent at the same time ignorant.

The princess is out of proportion, she looks very small.
Her hair is red and most Latina's have light brown hair colour.
Her eyes are blue and Latina's don't have blue eyes.
The pink background portrays her as a girly girl.
Jewels show her status of wealth
Her skin colour portrays her as a white person and not Latino.

When I looked at this "Latina" princess her thick red hair caught my eye and I instantly thought of models and how perfectly their hair flows. Sofia's hair is flawlessly healthy and flows freely
Her fair skin brings out the colour.
Her dress represents her royalty. All the pearls and diamonds that are on her dress show that she is wealthy.
She has pale skin that shows her rosy red cheeks.
Beautiful blue eyes could mean that she is calm and blue also represents royalty along with her purple dress.
The tiara on her head is fabulously perfect for a young princess. The design is very eye catching.
Her pose is well mannered and respectful. Her posture is good and shows that she is proud.
The pink background shows she is a very girly girl.
All in all she is perfectly flawless and could be the perfect girl.

We think that Sofia is made to look like a prim and proper lady. Her hair is neat and made to compliment her facial features. Her bright blue eyes are opened and yet she isn't exposed to the horrors of the world. Her posture makes her look very innocent. Sofia’s necklace and tiara shows her status. One would look at Sofia as a role model and perfect young lady.

  22. 1. Oh yes Girl- This particular piece of artwork has a fine look of texture, her curly hair looks rough and soft .While the brown colour of her hair portrays a darker side..The glow on her forehead gives a light, tone, like she is lying on a floor, under a lamp or a ceiling light. The way she is hung up on the metal cross-like figure gives the idea that she’s in pain, emotionally and physically and makes herself look cheap... she also tries so hard so make herself look beautiful that she’ll hurt herself for it. Natural beauty is what she may have had before she did what she did also the expression on her face shows that she’s just had enough and is ready to give up, she looks vulnerable. She looks under-toned and unhealthy, the cut marks on her body, the scars, they make her look strong but weak in her emotional side and like she just wants to be someone she can’t be. Her shoulders are widely spread, quite bony in appearance, like she may be anorexic, being skinny is pretty, but being yourself is even more beautiful, fat or thin, you are who you are and you’re beautiful in every way. Uses of secondary and tertiary colours are used to make her look different, more... vulnerable and humble. She needs to stand up as her own person, women have our own power, and we’re strong in everything we do!

Disney’s new Sophia princess- This image is a 2D image of a younger looking girl, she looks like she is shy and quite inquisitive, her eyes give away a shy image, like she’s young, maybe hiding something, pain or something that may be coming e.g.: the ball she may be forced to go to. She has young blemished skin it makes her look quite young, like she still has some space to grow and develop. Her jewellery makes her look like she comes from a wealthier family who are well off, as well as the clothing she has on (the dress and tiara and jewellery). The background shows off this little girl and brings out who she truly is, this young shy Latina princess. She is quite pale but her hair and eyes give her the colour that her skin tone requires. The brown, curly locks of her hair give her face shape and set a texture. A soft, wavy texture that implies kindness and harmony.

Princcess sofia has rosy cheeks which shows that she is healthy, it also adds a bit opf cuteness to her and makes her seem adorable.Sofia's eyes are big and out of proportion which again gives her the element of cuteness, her eyes are blue which reminds us of the clear blue sky, it also makes her seem innocent. Her hair is wavy and makes her seem kind hearted and a bit shy. Sofia is wearing a purple ball gown, purple is known to be a royal colour which goes quite nicely considering she is a princcess. The main colours in Sofia's picture is her purple dress and the pink background, it creates a very girly and gentle mood to the picture.

  25. 1. Sofia-
The pink background shows Sofia's girly side and it shows that she's playfull. She's got big beautyfull blue eyes which may show honesty, and tells us that she's a calm young lady.
From looking at her warm rosy cheeks, you can insantly tell that she's healthy and well kept. Sofia's wearing a neat purple dress, which is a sign of royalty and since the dress has got pearls, it also shows her state of wealth.
The way princess Sofia is standing (head slightly posed and with her hands benind her back) shows that she's a sweet little lady and she may be a little shy at times and shows us that she's innocent.

The Oh Yes Girl looks ill and gruesome, and doesn't look a peeling to the eye. You can see that she has been suffering which is shown threw the imperfectly joined plaster. She is also hanging from a cross like a crucifixion which shows she sacrifices herself in order to please others. Palms are open which show that she allows anything to happen to her. She looks like she is a doll because her head is detached and stitched back on. Hair implanted into prepared holes. the stitching on the body speaks of multiply abused. You can see her bones which looks like shes been dieting. Even though she doesn't look to good she is still beautiful in her own way.

Sofia, a spritely Disney Junior star, captivates you with her flawless skin and perfect pout, framed by her lush red hair.
Her eyes are an enchanting blue which makes her even more beautiful, if that’s even possible.
Her dress choice is impeccable. True royalty, in her beautiful lilac dress, encrusted in shimmering diamonds.
The pink background creates an impression that she’s a real girly girl, as does her innocent pose

Princess Sofia-The way in which princess Sofia has been presented shows that she possesses elegance and class. Her crown and precious stone on her necklace, link, proving she has royalty within her family. Her purple dress is a soft colour, mixing with the tones of her skin accentuating her features. Her eyes are very prominent which represents honesty and a youthful innocence. Sofia’s cheeks are lightly tinted with a rosy blush insinuating good health and warm kindness. Her red hair flows, gently, framing her face and lightly grazing her shoulders. Personally,we feel this is almost a sign of rebellion as most Disney princesses usually have long flowing black ,brown or blonde hair. This is a fresh perspective which could potentially be quite a hit.

When we look at Sofia we see her pale skin with rosy cheeks which shows she has fair, healthy skin which is either naturally rosy or there has been a use of cosmetics. Her big, blue eyes make her seem innocent and calm especially since they are so out of proportion. The pose with her arms behind her back and her tilted head makes us believe she is quite shy but well mannered and cute. Her big, sparkly jewellery shows she is wealthy and maybe a bit spoilt and her tiara shows she is a princess. The soft curls in her hair make her seem light-hearted and the curls show that she has a possible wild side underneath all her innocence.

Oh Yes Girl is an example of a woman who has gone through female mutilation in order to become more beautiful than what she was. She probably had a very low self-esteem. In the illustration she looks very sickly and tired. We thought she looked like she could have cancer due to the very pale skin and her hair does not look very realistic. She also does not have any eyebrows. Her eyes are closed which could indicate the horror that her eyes have seen now that she has gone through so much and done so much to change who she is. She looks very skinny and could be anorexic because of how she probably wanted to look good and fit in. There is a lace that goes around her neck and on the top part on the back of her body. This symbolises brokeness and suffering to become beautiful. The colour of the body and the background are very light but are not very bright or pleasant colours that we see everyday. Her head is slightly tilted downwards and to her one side to show that she may not be very proud or confident of who she is.

When we look at Princess Sofia we see big blue eyes and pale skin , which is unusual for a Latin American Princess. The colour of her eyes link to her personality as she is a calm and tranquil person. Her pale skin emphasizes her rosy cheeks which shows what people perceive as natural beauty. We notice the colour of her dress, purple, which symbolizes royalty and wealth, which is applicable because she is a princess. Her tiara, necklace and pearls on her dress also show that she is from a wealthy decent. Her soft , tamed curls could show that she is a light-hearted.The manner in which she tilts her head and has her hands behind her back shows how timid she is.

When we look at the "Oh Yes Girl …” we see her pale skin which makes us think she was not well nourished and possibly a bit sick. Her dark, curly hair looks quite dirty and stiff which shows she has poor hygiene and that she is not well looked after. Her dirty skin also suggests she has poor hygiene. Her facial expression is quite depressing and it looks like she is dead. We found the beauty in the lace that has been sewn around her neck and this shows torture and this together with the cuts on her body shows suffering and brokenness..

  34. One of the first things you notice when looking at Princess Sofia is her rosy cheeks , small nose and pink lips which make her look adorable. Sofia's eyes are large and out of proportion, they are also blue. The colour blue is a calming because of her eye colour she seems calm and relaxed. Her body language also makes it seem that she is quite shy but also inquisitive because her head is tilted to the side and her arms crossed behind her back. Her medium length wavy brown hair makes her seem light hearted and friendly. Her dress is purple a colour that we normally associate with royalty. It is also decorated with pearls which make her look wealthy and important.

The very design of Princess Sophia takes inspiration from common stereotypes in society. For example, large blue eyes like Sophia’s are often used to indicate or give the impression of innocence while the colour blue is often significant of tranquility. Her rosy cheeks highlight her pale skin and could express the fact that she is healthy. It can also show that she is fond of using makeup at a young age. Her regal dress shows that she is from a wealthy family. Her jewellery expands the fact that she is used to expensive possessions which in todays society it is thought to be a symbol of status and sometimes beauty. Her “hands-behind-her-back” pose seems to express her quiet or shy nature. The overall colour scheme and background is mainly made up of pink and purple to reflect her girly nature and also emphasises the common stereotype that all girls like pink and purple.

    Princess Sofia
She has nice, beautiful blue eyes that are open widely. This could mean that she acts coy (very shy and innocent). Her eyes are also blue which is a popular, more accepted, colour. Her lips are red and glossy which light up her face. They increases her attractiveness. Her hair is thick and full, looks healthy and is a deep brown colour. It could mean that she cares for her hair and eats well. Her rosy cheecks and long eyelashes look as though she has make-up on. I find that the prettiness of her, makes me want to watch her act. Sofia however, just has to look her normal self and not have all these different things that make her look pretty, because she looks pretty without them. Its like a mask that she is putting on to please us.

    Oh yes girl
In this sculpture her eyes are closed and they don't look intriguing. This could mean that she is asleep or perhaps she is dead. Her lips have been stained a dark red which looks like blood, as if someone has hit her in the mouth. Her hair looks as though she is loosing it because she has a receding hair line. It also looks thin and wirey as if it is unkept. Jane Alexander has made her sculpture to be so white, very pale, so that women realize that you don't need make-up to look beautiful. The fact that Jane Alexander made her sculpture to have a detachable head could mean that women change their face, puts different masks on so they could be someone else and not themselves.

When we look at oh yes girl we notice that she is an older, real, mature, slightly pale women ( but with no wrinkles) which shows she is in the prime of her life and tha she has withstood many difficulties. She is wearing no adornments but a lace garment around her neck portraying her femininity. Her posture and facial expression- head tilted, eyes closed, pursed lips- show her resignation and submission that allows her to live in harmony with a hard life. Her hairstyle - natural, receding hairline and thinning of hair - show her natural beauty of knowledge and wisdom. Her features have been very defined portraying her natural, inner beauty of strength and character.

Princess Sofia -Perceiving the picture she's more of a disney princess then a Latino. Her bright, big, blue eyes accentuate her timidly manner. Her body language shows her innocence and her friendly personality. Her crown proves her loyalty and it shows off her vibrant hair colour. The pink background emphasizes the colour of her dress which exhibits her wealthiness. We have evaluted that she is a girly character. Her blue dress also shows off her purple pendant. Princess Sofia isn't our every day "Barbie Doll". She has huge potential in the market industry. We really do adore her.

Oh yes girl- From our perspective she is not the most beautiful. This artwork has a fine sense of texture. The different types of tones portrayed is magnificent. Her closed eyes reveal signs of hurt and abandonment. Her facial expressions exhibits her vulnerability. She has a long sulken face - showing shes despressed and self-conscious. Observing this sculpture it seems to use that shes "shut off" from the world. There's no pride taken in her appearance. Her loss of hair concludes that she's mistreated. Her scars represent weakness and incarceration. The lighting on her face accentuates her paleness- making her seem unhealthy. This sculpture proves that make up does not achieve beauty -it's the person inside.

Sofia’s remarkable blue eyes give off a cute impression. They are out of proportion and this implies a very innocent look. The manner in which we interpret her eyes makes her appear just adorable! Her rosy cheeks radiate a charming impression. It makes us think that she’s healthy and comes from a capable family. Her dainty hair, which immediately makes us want to think that she’s a happy lassie, radiate a sense of innocence and appears to be faultless. the curles contribute to her perfection and beauty. Her dress looks immaculate. It makes us want to scream RICH! RICH! RICH! The dress is made from fine fabric and pearls. It really is dazzling. If you weren’t convinced that she was residing in a palace, then surely this dress would convince you. The background enhances her prettiness due to the careful selection of colours that compliments her girly self.

Sofia is obviously from an upper class judging from her flamboyant dress. Her rosy cheeks indicate that she is a very healthy and it makes her appeal to the stereotypical ‘cute little girl’. But, this all could be artificial as there are artificial ways of having rosy cheeks. Her big, blue eyes her look innocent as blue comes across as a calming colour. Her eyes are also out of proportion and thus adding to the effect of a stereotypical ‘cute little girl’. Some people might see her hair as perfect as her hair is wavy. Her curly hair indicates a light-hearted nature. Straight hair is easy to order but curly hair isn’t as easy which gives off a hint of rebellion. This is supposedly shown on the Disney cartoon series when she rebels against the bad things her peers tell her to do but instead does something right in a rebellious but innocent manner. Her pose shows that she is quite a timid person and it also shows politeness. The purple indicates royalty but in a lighter shade it looks cute, and shows younger royalty. The pink background gives a happy and a “girly” feel to the picture.

When we look at Sofia, we see her rosy cheek which is unusual for a “Latin” princess. This leads us to believe that she is a symbol of perfection in conjunction with her adorable looks and immense beauty. Her big, blue, sparkly eyes are also unexpected for someone of Latin descent, though they show her innocent, calm and tranquil personality. Her soft brown curls entail her light-hearted, bubbly and flippant way of taking on life. We noticed the way she stands with her arms behind her back and take this to mean that she is shy yet cute.

When looking at this piece of artwork we see that her hair is very artificial like a doll signifying that she wants to feel perfect and look perfect. Her hair also looks rough and dirty meaning that she could have also been through a lot but it hasn't turned out right. Her body is also very boney, thin and pale , that could signify she has put herself through a lot to achieve a stereotyped slim figure eg: anorexia or bulimia. Her body hangs limply from a metal rack. This could signify that she can't stand up on her own but needs approval from other people. Her eyes are closed meaning that she can't stand the sight of her own body and has gone through a lot of suffering . Her head is slightly lowered, this could mean that she is easily intimidated by other people. her body has been put together piece by piece and looks untidy and painful. This shows the horrors of what the struggle to get perfect ‘beauty’ can do to you.

The Oh Yes Girl-this statue looks like a woman who was very sickly or was abused a lot. She is very pale which almost makes her seem ghost-like. She also looks like she has gone through a lot of suffering. Her hair is very curly and messy which could represent that her life was very difficult and all over the place. it could also represent the fact that she is not a perfect woman. The Oh Yes Girl has a unique type of beauty, it is not one that is reconised as soon as you lay eyes on her. You have to look deeper.

    ReplyDelete

The way we perceive Oh Yes Girl is a picture of suffering and despair. Her hair looks very dirty and unkept, this might show that she does not care about her appearance anymore. She comes across as depressed and that she has given up on herself. We suggest that she might have psychological problems. She could be obsessing over herself to the point of exhaustion. She is terribly skinny and tremendously pale. It looks like she has been starving herself because stereotypically, thin is beautiful, but her paleness suggests otherwise. Her body is covered with deep cuts and scars. This puts forward the idea of self-harm and mutilisation. Her mouth is hanging open, like she’s breathing slowly or heavily. This might mean that she’s really tired or fed up of this situation.
Overall, we think Oh Yes Girl is a really messed up woman who needs help. We suggest counselling.

  49. This is just Nicole Seaman 9D... the Oh Yes Girl brings across an image of despair, showing us that she as been through a lot of trouble in her lifetime. The paleness in her face and body display fairness as well a lost, unloving picture of the lady. Her very little and or no clothing perceive an open image to the public, this shows us how woman can be treated in society. Her untidy, receding hair line portray a disorganised woman and her posture and pose show that she is almost of no use and has no form of status or empowerment. The amount of bone show a small sense of beauty, but mainly how she could have been harmed and hurt in her past. The closed eyes display a discouraged person, who has possibly given up on hope. Her pursed, red lips could display blood or hatred, but they also add a pop of colour when all the other colours are of a dull sort. The Oh Yes Girl seems lost in a world of hatred when beauty is what she wants.

    Oh Yes Girl

The Oh Yes Girl seems to be associated with a variety of negative emotions such as fear and sorrow. Her whole body shows signs of suffering (i.e. the scars/marks). Her pale complexion and overall lack of colour may be evident of dark emotions which have been bottled up inside of her. She could have been ill or cold before she died. Her complexion could also be a result of excessive dieting or anorexia nervosa, bulimia or other eating disorders. Her receding hairline seems to be a sign of torture (eg. someone pulling her hair) or self-torture. She might have been styling her hair so often that it eventually began falling off. Her open mouth can symbolize the fact that she did not get to speak her thoughts and still has more that she wishes she could say. Maybe she was left to die outdoors and was trying to call for help (her pale, cold skin also supports this theory.) The lace sewn onto her skin can show an obsession with vanity and the idea of wanting to be beautiful. Oh Yes Girl does not necessarily represent the idea of beauty and perfection which most people hold in their minds.Oh Yes Girl shows the plain truth of reality for many ,be it bitter.

She is smiling because people expect her to be positive and perfect because she's a princess. Her auburn hair shows volume and warmth. It is like the glowing sunset around her face. Her blue eyes show calmness and innocence. Her pale skin shows purity but can also be seen as a stereotype as most Disney princesses are white (race). Her rosy cheeks show a sense of sweetness and full of happiness. Her hands behind her back shows obedience and innocence.

The light pink rosy cheeks give the impression of shyness and quietness. Her beautiful, shiny, brown, curly hair shows the beauty of an innocent little girl. Her glittery tiara gives her outer look a much more wealthier and upper class type of beauty. The purple puffed out dress shows her royal beauty and princess like fashion.

  54. Sophia-Princess Sophia is the definition of cuteness. The tilted head and big blue eyes give the image a sense of innocence and sweetness. Her beautiful brown hair looks like a willow tree in winter surrounding its trunk. Her beautiful peach and a touch of pink skin go perfectly with her big blue eyes and brown hair. The mixture of the pink in the background and the purple of the dress and necklace are the perfect colour mixture to depict royalty. The jewellery (tiara and necklace) are indicators that she comes from a wealthy and royal background. The hands behind her back indicate that she is adventurous and also shy yet positive like a princess. The curls in her hair show light heartedness and freedom. The colour of the background is great with the pink rosy cheeks giving the artwork great contrast.

Oh Yes Girl – This picture is very hard to explain yet very interesting at the same time. The colour tone of her skin is very pale and bleak indication to us that she might have been left somewhere cold or outside. Her hair looks stiff like wire and very unhygienic indicating that she was poor and homeless. Her loose skin and bruises on her body and skin indicate that she was not able to support herself and was very poorly treated. This sculpture is indicating that the world is being taken over by men as she looks like a piece of meat hanging on a rack, ready for use. Her face is very calm and plain like a Barbie doll. Her head is detachable indicating to everyone that woman can be used and then taken and thrown away when they are no longer needed. Her hair indicates that new woman would do anything to look beautiful.

    Princess Sofia.
Sofia is a typical Disney princess with a twist. Her red hair, rosy cheeks and pale skin are rare, as they do not mix with her description. Her warm blue eyes indicate a refreshing and innocent nature. The pink background gives you the impression of a young, girly type of girl. Her purple dress, accessorized with pearls and diamonds, shows wealth and royalty. Sofia’s body posture makes her seem young and very innocent. Lastly, Princess Sofia’s tiara symbolises authority and high classification.

Princess Sofia- Looking at her pale skin and big beautiful eyes makes her seem enchanting. When we first looked at her we thought she was white but with more research we found out that she’s actually Latino. The background is pink which give you a more feminine feel to it. By looking at her it gives you a kind feeling and you would think that she relate to younger children. Her purple dress makes her look very elegant but Latino’s normally wear clothing with a lot of frills ,but her dress makes her look more American. When look at her stunning curly hair you'd think that shes a energetic and vibrant young girl.

    OH YES GIRL
Oh Yes Girl is trying to please everybody and society by “ looking beautiful”. She cannot stand by herself because she can’t support herself, she needs a man’s approval in order to feel validated. Its suggests that shes a piece of meat. Her face and her open palms show that she allows things to happen to her showing vulnerability. Shes positioned like a doll waiting to be played with. The stitching on her body speaks of mutilation. Both life and death are shown in this pose. Women abuse their bodies in order to comply with society’s expectations.

the picture of princess Sophia represents royalty because of her beautiful tiara and the way she is dressed. A viewer assumes that Sophia is an elegant, sweet, kind, ladylike little girl by the pink background and her stunning purple dress.Sophia is suppose to be a Latina princess which is quite ironic considering that her features do not represent a Latina. she has red hair and blue eyes , a Latina would be considered to have dark hair and dark eyes. her skin tone is pale unlike a
Latina whose skin tone would be olive. a Latina princess would dress in traditional Latin clothes and not in ball gowns.

Oh yes girl is an older, pale women who has been through a lot of suffering. She is completely naked, showing all her wounds from her past. Her pose and open hands show that she is helpless and vulnerable. The lace sewn around her neck shows that you have to be in pain to look beautiful. She is also hanging from a metal structure. This shows she is like a doll, vulnerable and allows herself to be abused without restraint.

    Sophia

The princess gives an impression of royal family background in the fancy purple dress she wears and the jeweled tiara atop her head. She also appears neat and well-groomed which shows us that she is loved and possibly famous(she needs to look good in the picture for public purposes). Sophia has adopted an innocent pose making her look approachable, cute, and is shrouded in pink giving us the idea that she is yet another stereotypical disney princess, however, her pose, face, and small frame show us that she is an adolescent(unlike the adult princess's presented by disney thus far) and that there are many unexplored adventures and opportunities that she could bring forth, which is why she fits the protagonist role. Another thing that makes her steer clear from your average disney princess is that when she was unveiled this week, the viewers of her show were told that she was in fact, disney's first latin-american princess.

    Oh yes girl

The beauty and message presented in this sculpture is one of pain and suffering. The girl in the sculpture has a passive expression, and this could mean that she just accepts the things that happen to her, and has no power in herself to stop them. The position she is in resembles the way meat is hung from a rack which could mean that she is regarded as a mere object or possession. Her face is not that of a normal woman, and it has male aspects to it which could mean that the girl has mutilated herself to look similar to a man in order to fit into society. She has numerous scars and stitches on her body which could mean that she is unhappy with her body and tried to change it many times.. The stand she rests on could also mean that she cannot walk or function without support, or that she needs something else to complete her , like a man.

Princess Sofia looks like an innocent, caring and naive little girl. her pretty combed hair and smooth skin show us that she’s never really had hardships in her life, that she was never exposed to the evil and hardcore side of the world. her blue eyes make her seem like a warm caring character with a great heart and a colourful bright personality which appeals to many young children around the world. many young girls are influenced by Sofia’s looks and personality. it creates an image of what a young girl should look and behave like as Sofia’s neatness and moral rubs off on the younger generation as it grows. although Sofia is seen as a good example to the younger children, there are some negative points about her which can influence younger viewers. her appearance seems flawless and perfect which plays a large impact on the younger viewers’ lives because when they’re younger they have this image in their minds and believe that every young girl should actually look like Sofia and when they realise that they’re different they will have a very low self esteem.

This sculpture shows how women are depicted in society. It shows how
women strive to to be society’s perfect women and lose their individuality.
Her eyes were closed and peaceful that she has no objections. Her arms indicate that she lets society judge and shape her. The scars on her body show how society’s ideals have made her the women she is today but under all the scars and imperfections she is a beautiful person. This sculpture aims to show that women are still beautiful even with all their imperfections.

Her scars and stitches show that she’s gone through a lot of trouble to be beautiful and that she’s sacrificed herself in a way to be society’s kind of beautiful. Her eyes are closed to make her look like she’s dead because she’s tired of all the suffering and feeling like she’s not good enough. Her hair is implanted through the holes in her head, showing that she thinks that looking perfect like a Barbie doll will make people attracted to her. The holes in her hand and the stitches show that she has tried to change the way she looks in order to be accepted by people. Princess Sofia :
When one looks at Princess Sofia they are immediately overwhelmed by the cliche that we have all come to expect from Disney Princesses. Only this time everyone had expected this “Latina” princess to be somewhat different.

At first glance Sofia’s large, blue eyes immediately catch your attention. You would first notice how out of proportion they seem to be which could be ideal for any cartoon. The sky blue colour of her eyes have a tranquil and calming attribute whilst the size of her eyes reflect a child-like curiosity but innocent side to her personality. Sofia has very adorable, blushing, round cheeks that could show health, stereotyped beauty and a youthful glow. It can also show how shy she can be. Her coy posture could show a shy side to her personality. Her brown hair looks to be very light and flippant, maybe as if reflecting her personality. Her hair may be very wavy but also was a very ordered and tidy look to it as if the wilder side to her personality were being suppressed but is still present. Sofia is garbed in very elegant and well-tailored clothing, well suited for a princess. The colour purple, is usually portrayed as being a symbol of royalty. Sofia’s dress is a much lighter lilac that may represent her youth.

    Oh yes girl:
The sculpture “oh yes girl” may not be everybody’s idea of idealistic beauty but there are underlying concepts to it that make it beautiful in its own way.
The closed eyes of the woman portray a sense of peace and relief after much torment. Her red lips show life and vibrancy even surrounded by a look of death and decay. Another “spark of life” in this sculpture could be her unscarred hands that show strength and acceptance despite her vulnerability. Her nakedness and open posture make her seem to be free from inhibitions and proud of who she is, no matter how mutilated she may seem to people. Her detached head could show the significance of how the human mind and thought can be pure and different to the impulses of the body, which are easier to give into.

When observing "Oh yes girl", a few things that we notice are, her receding hairline which resembles that of a doll, we interpret the detailed lace around her neck as the fact that everyone has something beautiful about them.We also notice her white-yellow complexion which portrays death and undernourishment. There are no signs of abuse on her face but the manner in which she tilts her head seems a timid person who could be very vulnerable. Her facial expression shows no emotion and is lifeless therefore we can assume that she is no longer living.

    Oh Yes Girl.
When we look at ‘Oh Yes Girl’ it is difficult for us to perceive beauty through this sculpture as she is stereotyped as ‘ugly’, due to the fact that she lacks colour, she is ‘boney’ and she has unusual features. Her pale skin implies that she may be sickly or cold. Her stiff and coarse looking hair shows that she may lack self-respect due to the untidiness. Due to her tilted head we perceive that she is one of a vulnerable nature and we can assume that she is uncertain of something. Her face lacks emotion and could possibly mean that she is no longer of existence.

She is trying to be more beautiful by having lace stitched onto her neck and chest, it is actually not as appealing as she thought it would be. You can see that she's continuous about her weight because of how skinny (slim) she is. Her lips are a bright red, not from lipstick but from abusing it (damaging it). There are extensions implanted into her head and her facial expression tells you she is in pain. She could be doing this due to age or a low self esteem.

    Sofia

Just hearing the name in itself would allow you to imagine a young, pretty and petite girl or lady. The image portrayed on the blog site is of a shy, innocent little princess that everybody likes and is always doing everything right. This is because of the way her hands are position behind her back and head tilted to the side. Her blue eyes stereotype an angel, that anyone would “melt” for and like her for immediately. The purple ball-gown and pink background suggests that she is a “girly-girl” and prefers the cultural things, such as art, singing etc. Her tanned skin implies that she spends a fair amount of time outdoors and because it is flawless it implicates her youth.

    OH YES GIRL, Jane Alexander

Jane alexander’s girl portrays the reality of people being perfect in their imperfections. It shows that not everyone has a perfect tan, that some people are pale. It shows emotion, that every person finds happiness, despite looks. It shows that the qualities on the outside don’t always count. Jane Alexander’s view on reality and emotion is depicted through her work of art. The veins showing on the sculpture’s neck shows realism. Her clothes that she is wearing portrays that you don't have to use exclusive clothes to be happy.

In conclusion the main difference between Princess Sofia and Jane Alexander's oh yes girl is that with Sofia, her beauty is shown by her body and with the things that she wears, whereas with oh yes girl, it is a an example of beauty from within.

This is a 2D image of a disney princess, Sofia. Her posture shows that she is a shy girl because of her hands behind her back and her head tilted to one side. Her bright blue eyes portray innocence, friendliness and calmness. Her flawless skin indicates that she is very young and the rosiness of her cheeks and her facial structure suggests that she is also healthy. The dress that she is wearing is purple which indicates royalty and it is also well tailored. The necklace that graces her neck shows wealth in the family and the tiara on her head indicates the fact that she is a princess. Her hair is well styled and cut, showing that it is also very healthy. She has an adorable smile and it shows that she is friendly and well mannered. The pink background also indicates that she is young and very girly. Sofias image suggests that she is the type of little girl who can get almost anything that they ask for because of her looks. She is very beautiful and is the perfect example of a young royal.

    Ohh Yes Girl

This is an image of a middle aged women, the image that her face portrays is sadness. She doesn’t look happy and it suggests that she has been hurt a lot. She has been abused physically and emotionally. She has wounds present on her entire body and can be used as a representative of most women in households today, she is abused and is treated like a play toy for men. We assume this because she has stitching on her neck and synthetic hair and is compared to a doll. She is held upright by a type of stand to show that she can not help herself and depends on others, mainly men, to ‘hold her up’ and support her. She is treated differently and is also probably made fun of because of her looks, but we need to realise that beauty comes from within and we shouldn’t judge people by their appearance.

All in all Sofia’s whole character suggest how free children are from the burden of society and how they naturally shine through their personality and inner beauty.

    OH YES GIRL

When looking at ‘oh yes girl’ the first thing that popped in to our minds was that she looks “scary”. The way her head and limbs are sewn onto her body suggest the how women these days mutilate their bodies just to be the society’s idea of beautiful instead of embracing their inner and natural beauty. To many mutilation is seen as a “scary” topic but has evolved into seeming normal in today’s world.

'Oh yes girl' hangs on a stand up straight as if she were a barbie doll this suggests how she stands there waiting to be ‘played with’ by whoeversowill. her hanging also suggests ideas of the crucifix and how she sacrifices herself to today’s society trends instead of embracing ideas of her own and her own inner beauty.

All in all, ‘Oh yes girl’ depicts how women in today’s world look so much up to the society’s rules on how we are suppose to act and how we are suppose to look instead of embracing what makes us, us.

Her skin is very pale it looks as if she were deceased. Her lips are also chapped, cracked and dry. The colour of her lips is also not healthy since they are a shade of earthy red. Having lace sewn on her chest shows that she was mutilated relating to her gender since lace is something usually linked to women. It has been painted to look old fashioned as if it were from medieval times because she looks like she’s been “kept in the Dark Ages”, and does not have the rights of the “modern women”. Princess Sophia
Sophia’s clean, richly jeweled clothes signify that she is wealthy and has an orderly lifestyle. Her adorable rosy cheeks symbolize that she is of perfect health, has perfect skin or that she has purposely made her cheeks an adorable pink colour using cosmetics. Sophia’s big blue eyes are are out of proportion which give her a cute and innocent look about her. Her soft light-brown curls are tamed, perfectly in place and gives her a seemingly light-heart flippant personality. Her arms being placed behind her back and her head being in a tilted position give her a shy and cute elegance. The pink background behind Sophia sets a “adorable” mood to the illustration.

    “Oh Yes Girl!”
Her closed eyes give her an oblivious, “locked-inside” personality. The lace collar stitched to her neck represents the extreme measures that people will take in order to achieve “perfection” and it also represents mutilation in people’s original appearance’s. Her lips draw people’s attention because they have the only colour visible in this artwork, they also are beautiful because they don’t distort her face whilst managing to convey her sadness. Her brown-black curly hair conveys her confusion, disorganization and her deeper emotions are conveyed by the colour of her hair. Her hanging head shows her shame and submission to others.

Rebecca Corbett and Kayla Van Schalkwyk say that The Latina Princess, Sofia is colourful and pretty for a cartoon. She is a fairy tale for little children and she is a fantasy. She has an cartoonistic beauty as her facial features are not realistic and there is not a lot of complex detail such as her lips do not have creases, her nose is basic and her eyes are too big but her hair falls perfectly and has nice highlights. No one is perfect, but cartoons are always created perfectly. Her jewelry proves that she may be rich and she is dressed well. The sparkles on her show that she is clean and princess-like.

    Oh Yes Girl
Rebecca Corbett and Kayla Van Schalkwyk said that Oh Yes Girl has scars on her body (including legs, higher back, neck, arms, lower body region) which show that she has been abused, and through much pain, suffering and broken-heartedness, to please others that she loved. It reminds us of the crucifixion when Jesus was crucified and suffered just as Oh Yes Girl did. She was weak and needed support to stand up, just like how Jesus was, on the cross, during his last hours of living. She has short, black curly hair which she had implanted like a doll and this shows us she payed to be beautiful. Oh Yes Girl is tall, slender and pale. She has big lips, no eyelashes, eyebrows and has details on her neck. She has a big nose and has a lot of details on her ears. Oh Yes Girl has cuts on her knees and Rebecca and I think she might have been beautiful in real life because she has a passive face but allowed things to happen to her.

  83. ‘’Oh yes girl’’ by Jane Alexander

The sculpture made by Jane was compared to meat. In some African tribes, animals are sacrificed to fulfil the needs of ancestors, in society, women are ill treated and are expected to sacrifice in order to fulfil the selfish desires of men.

The comparing of the sculpture to meat also tells us how women are seen in society. Meat can only be eaten and there is nothing more to it, in the corporate world, women are not taken seriously and are not expected to be leaders. In society itself women are underestimated and are not expected to be capable of anything as they are seen as vulnerable and sensitive. they are seen as people who have no use to the public but as ‘possessions’ that are ‘used’ to satisfy the needs and wants of the opposite sex.

the sculpture created by Jane is also compared to a Barbie doll. Women are expected to look a certain way, dress and even smell a certain way. a beautiful woman is given more acknowledgement, attention and respect than a woman who is not as attractive. This puts a lot of pressure on females. Their self - esteem ends up being based on their appearance and do all they can to look a certain way. Nowadays skinny is the new beauty. Young teenagers together with young adults become anorexic and starve themselves because they are often judged, don’t feel good about themselves and are not given the attention that is given to a skinny, tall, smooth skinned lady.

Jane’s image shows us the other side of beauty. More like the ‘backstage’ of beauty. the side that everybody sees, the ‘stage’, is clean, sleek, ‘presentable’, beautiful, APPROPRIATE to be viewed to the PUBLIC. but when she comes home in the evening, the backstage suddenly comes out. when she wipes the make up off her face, takes off the push up bra, suddenly, a different side shows. the bags under her eyes, the wrinkles, the dry skin, the stretch marks. it shows us all the trouble that women go through to look beautiful. as much as we don’t want to admit it, it actually shows us the true identity of a woman. all this happens just because the media constantly says that beauty is everything.

woman struggle more than men. men believe that because they work so much they have a lot on their plate. they also believe that women don’t work as hard as them because all they have to do is fall pregnant and take care of the house. they don’t see the pain and fatique that women go through and how it slowly eats them away.

When we look at this sculpture, the first thing we notice is her nudity. This could symbolise the fact that she has been oppressed and has lost her dignity, through her oppressors. This implies that she was vulnerable. She was ill-treated and abused, this was done to such an extent that her neck was slit and then re-attached to her body. All her scars and cuts also shows that she was abused constantly. Her receding hair line and the pale colour of her skin shows that she was malnourished and weak. Her long, dirty nails show that she did not have access to good sanitation. The fact that she is hung implies that she couldn't stand on her own, because others have presided over her for a long time. Her blank facial expressions, shows that she gave up fighting back her oppressors long ago. When looking at this sculpture, one can not help but realise the reality that this girl was exploited. We don't know in what way she was exploited, but we do know that however this was done, it is still very incorrect, inappropriate and inhumane. This also indicates that her oppressors have no respect for her.

The Oh Yes Girl, is very beautiful, but in order to fit in with society she has to change the way she looks. The way she is standing with her palms up shows she is like a doll waiting to be played with. The way in which her head is positioned(hanging low) shows she is not happy with her physical appearence and is ashamed to look at others. Her eyes are closed which suggests that she didn’t want to see people that looked better than her. She is hanging from a stand by he armpits showing that she's willing to sacrifise herself for others.

    Princess Sofia-
Princess Sofia is wearing the colour purple which often represents royalty. The combination of her large blue eyes and the way her hair is tucked behind her ear shows innocence. The pink background shows shes a young girly girl. Her rosy cheeks and the way in which her hands are behind her back tell us she is shy and also makes her look cute. Red hair is often associated with fair skinned people but she is meant to be latino (darker skinned). The pearls on her dress, the tiara on her head and the emerald chain around her neck is an example of European style jewelry, and also shows she is wealthy.
